If you’re anything like me, you’ve found a way to remain relatively healthy. However, now that you’re aging, it’s getting harder and harder to do those things that kept you in such great shape or just ready for whatever was going on.
But that doesn’t mean you should quit trying or suddenly stop living. So, without further ado, here are some quick and even fun ways to stay active and, even more importantly, healthy despite your age.
First, it’s important to know that staying active is key for overall health, no matter what your lifestyle. If we stop moving, sit for long periods, and no longer work certain muscle groups, our bodies and joints will start to deteriorate and become more painful.
Now, clearly, this doesn’t mean you need to be out there lifting weights, running marathons, etc. However, it does mean that simply sitting on the couch or foregoing activities isn’t an option.
So first, make a list of physical activities you enjoy and ones that don’t strain you too much. You know, things like swimming, riding bikes, bowling, walking, etc. Then, begin incorporating these into your daily life. Take a 10-minute walk on your lunch. Take an occasional dance class. Enjoy a night of bowling with friends.
And that leads me to the next idea: involve friends and family.
It doesn’t take a genius to realize that if you have fun with others doing something, you’re more likely to keep doing it. So, find activities that involve others. Go golfing, play tennis, or take a yoga class with your bestie. You can even enjoy some gardening.
And last but not least, go out of your way to be active.
Again, this doesn’t mean you have to run or even walk long distances. Instead, just try things like parking a little farther away than usual, making you have to walk a bit more. Or take the stairs instead of the elevator. Wash the car by hand.
You’ll be amazed at how your overall health will improve if you just get and stay active.
